Swimming with dolphins, deep sea fishing with a local charter, walking on a live volcano - White Island, 49 miles offshore, visit mineral hot pools of Fernland Spa - 10 mins from the motel, visit salt hot water pools at Mount Maunganui - 12 minutes away from motel, horseriding at Maketu just south of Tauranga or on Matakana Island, trail bike riding, land yachting with Blowkart Heaven, kite surfing, wind surfing, take some surfing lessons on the steady well formed waves next to Ocean Beach and do plain old wave surfing, kayaking Tauranga's inner harbour, walk around and up Mauao (Mount Maunganui also known as The Mount) which is one of North Islands most famous short walks. Walk around the base (45 mins at a brisk pace) or hike to the top to get some breathtaking views over Matakana Island, Tauranga and views out to Mayor Island. We have an Annual National Jazz Festival every Easter, so come and hang out in the Bay for 4 days and listen to local and International talent that fill the theatres and five street stages every year. There is the Annual Kiwi Fruit Festival celebrating the success of the kiwifruit area for which the Bay of Plenty is renowned as the Kiwi fruit centre of the world.
